EIB, European Commission, AFD and KfW, is teaming up with Senegal to invest €320 million (339.2 million) to upgrade Dakar’s Public Transport Network.

The financing consists of €266.9 million ($283 million) of loans, €166.9 million ($176.9 million) from EIB guaranteed by the European Commission through EFSD+ and €100 million ($106.1 million) from AFD and €53.5 million ($56.7 million) of grant, out of which €20 million ($21.2 million) is mobilised by the European Commission, €30 million ($31.8 million) from KfW on behalf of the German federal ministry for economic cooperation and development and €3.5 million ($3.7 million) from AFD.

This investment will help Senegal to tackle environmental challenges by providing cleaner, safe and affordable public transport for the Senegalese. The financing will be focused on the restructuring of the Dakar bus network. It covers 14 priority lines and includes the acquisition of 380 buses, the construction of two depots, the installation of ticketing and network management and control systems, as well as the development of 30km of roads.
