UKEF is covering for Government of Turkey acting through the Ministry of Treasury and Finance for financing the Mersin-Adana-Osmaniye-Gaziantep High-Standard Railway. 

Project objectives are: 

• To increase the share of railways for intercity transportation 
• To develop fast, safe and economical transportation opportunities 
• To enhance integration with other rail system lines 

The Project consists of the construction of a 286 km high-standard railway line as well as the related infrastructure and superstructure works and the installation of electrification, signalization and telecommunication systems. 

The railway will start in the city of Mersin and end in Başpınar station, passing through Adana, Ceyhan, Toprakkale, Bahçe and Nurdağı stations. The Project will serve to a large hinterland including several major cities that have an ample capacity for production and foreign trade. 

The Project will enhance the connectivity of industrial areas and companies in the region with the big metropolitan cities of Ankara and Istanbul. 

The Project will ensure connection of the region with the Mersin Port, which is the second largest container port in Turkey. Approximately 1/3 of the industrial production companies in Turkey will be in the impact area of the Project. 

Improvement of the railway infrastructure in the region will play a key role in decentralization of the industry in Turkey.
